STATUT :"The monotypic genus Canacomyrica is a small tree endemic to the rare remaining fragments of primary forest growing on serpentine in New Caledonia. In the rich flora of this island it is one of many endemics to be threatened by habitat loss due to a variety of factors, most significant of which is open-cast mining for nickel. Based on field observations and herbarium specimens the area of occurrence of Canacomyrica is found to be less than 5,000 km2. Within this area the distribution of Canacomyrica is very fragmented and limited to just eleven localities. Four (six?) of these are outside protected areas and one locality may be imminently threatened by mining activity. It is recommended that an IUCN red list category of Endangered EN B1ab(i,ii,iv,v) is assigned to this taxon." | ||
