Capparis quiniflora is an indigenous liana of New Caledonia largely distributed in Grande Terre as well as in Maré et Lifou in Loyalty Islands and Ile des Pins. This species occurs in dry forest, savana and secondary forest mainly in volcano-sedimentary, calcareous and clay substrate and rarely in shrubland on ultramafic slopes. It grows up to 250 m asl. This speciesis common and does not seem to be threathened. Therefore, with an extent of occurrence (EOO) equal to 49,961 km² and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 132 km², C. quiniflora is assessed as Least Concern (LC).
Geographical area
Capparis quiniflora is an indigenous species widespread along the west coast and lowlands of Grande Terre as well as in Loyalty Islands (Lifou and Maré) and Ile des Pins. This species is also widely distribution, ranging from Indonesia southwards to Australia and eastwards to Fiji and Tonga.
Population
Population size is unknown but based on field observations this species is quite common along coasts and in lowlands.
Habitat
Capparis quiniflora occurs in low altitudinal dry forest, savana and secondary forest and maquis (0-250 m asl), mainly in volcano-sedimentary, calcareous and clay substrate and more rarely in shrubland on ultramafic slopes.
Threats
This species does not seem globally threatened. However, some subpopulations may be impacted by bushfires, urbanisation and invasive species (Rusa deer, Rusa timorensis).
Conservation
Capparis quiniflora is not protected by legislation in New Caledonia and occurs in 2 protected areas: Ouen Toro, Ile Leprédour
